EMDR Therapy in Scottsdale, AZ

When the past continues to shape the present

UNRESOLVED EXPERIENCES

Some experiences do not resolve on their own.
Even when they are no longer happening, they can continue to show up as:

  • strong emotional reactions that feel sudden or overwhelming

  • shame, fear, or self-blame that doesn’t match the present momen

  • patterns in relationships that repeat despite insight or effort

These responses are not a sign of weakness. They reflect how the nervous system learned to protect you.

  • Traumatic experiences often live on not only as memories, but as patternsofresponse, in the body, emotions, and sense of self.

You may understand what happened, and still notice:

    • emotional flooding or shutdown

    • difficulty staying present

    • reactions that feel automatic or out of proportion

EMDR works at the level where these experiences are stored, allowing the system to process what could not be integrated at the time.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a trauma therapy that helps the nervous system metabolize unresolved experiences.

In this work, we attend to:

    • memories or themes linked to distress

    • emotional and bodily responses as they arise

    • how past experiences continue to organize present-day reactions

Rather than reliving the past, EMDR allows previously overwhelming material to be processed in a way that supports integration, flexibility, and choice.

  • As processing unfolds, clients often notice:

    • reduced emotional intensity around past experiences

    • increased ability to stay present during activation

    • more space to respond rather than react

    • a softening of shame, fear, or self-blame

Change happens gradually, as the system no longer needs to organize around unresolved threat.

  • EMDR is offered as part of a relational, trauma-informed, depth-oriented approach.

    This means:

    • preparation and stabilization are essential parts of the process

    • pacing is collaborative and responsive to your capacity

    • emotional safety and relational presence guide the work

We pay attention not only to what is being processed, but to how it shows up in the present, in emotions, sensations, and relational patterns.
